On November 19, 2024, the 5th Electricity Market Forum took place online from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with the topic "Secure capacities, flexible energy markets, affordable energy transition".
After a welcoming speech by Dr. Werner Götz (Managing Director of TransnetBW), Christian Seelos (Editor-in-Chief of energate) will lead three panel discussions on the following topics:
Securing capacity:
The consensus is that CO2 emissions must fall. However, one question is increasingly coming to the fore: How do we secure a reliable power supply in Europe in the new energy system? Are additional financial incentives necessary for the construction of power plants with CO2-neutral or low-CO2 technology and how could these be structured? What role can old plants play? What technical requirements do old and new plants have to meet? And how should generation be distributed in the grid so that it supports the grid instead of further burdening it? We will discuss these questions in this session.
Flexibility:
The increasing feed-in of volatile renewable energies (RE) requires the increased use of controllable power generators and flexible consumers for market and grid-supporting purposes. Many new suppliers are entering the market and flexibility can be provided by, for example, home storage systems and large batteries, electric vehicles, heat pumps and electrolysers. How flexible renewable energy generation systems need to be in the future is also part of the debate. This session will take a closer look at the demand, hurdles and solutions for flexibility as well as different perspectives.
Affordability of the energy transition:
How can electricity and grids remain affordable? Our experts will talk about support mechanisms for renewable energies, efficient utilization strategies for surplus electricity and innovative storage strategies. We will also shed light on how the market can secure the necessary expansion of renewable energies and reduce system costs through effective grid expansion and new redispatch models. Join us as we discuss the fair distribution of grid costs and the design of grid fees in order to promote a cost-efficient and sustainable energy system.
We look forward to your participation.
